When you were a kid this was a special time of year for no other reason than you got loads of new gear, from a mythical large chap dressed in red, who hoons around on a flying sled pulled by reindeer.
Don’t get me wrong the free swag is still decent but now we also get to stuff our faces guilt free and then, without having to worry about work for a weeks or so ‘av it large at some of the best parties of the year.
These are Hooch’s picks of the best parties over the Xmas period:
1. Portal 12 Hour Boxing Day Special – The Rainbow Venues – 26th December – 4pm to 4am
A celebration of the meteoric risers if ever there was one. Richy Ahmed and Darius Syrossian are in DJ dreamland, trecking all over the world delighting the masses with their born-in-beefa jacking house sets.
For this 12 hour extravaganza they are joined by Viva Warrior’s Detlef and dynamic duo Solardo. The former has gone from strength to strength over the past few years as Steve Lawler’s right hand man and the latter have catapulted into the lime light with a highly malleable sound which means they are just as comfortable appearing alongside Fatboy Slim as they are with techno heavyweights Carl Cox and Joseph Capriati.
2. Ape-x and Percolate Present Leon Vynehall All Night Long – Cosmic Ballroom 16th December
We’re big fans of the Percolate crew and they’ve been touring the country (and further) with their iconic club night over the winter. Here they return to Newcastle with a firm favourite of the promoter; Leon Vynehall to play a special all night long set in Room 1.
Room 2 sets to be a true local house party with friends and residents taking to the controls for what is sure to be an epic night.

3. Unleash with Apollonia, Great Suffolk Street Warehouse, London, 17th December
And so to London for our next recommendation and the GSS warehouse for a 5 hour B2B2B set from the always entertaining trio of Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia and Shonky. If that wasn’t enough 2 more collectives are on the bill with Livio & Roby and George G’s Premiesku and the newly formed Hold Youth which see’s Le Loup and minimal maestro Seuill come together to complete a delightfully complex line up that is sure to deliver all manner of electronic treats.

4. Inland Knights – Distrkt Bar, Leeds 26th December
If you ate too much turkey and spent too much on pressies then why not kill two birds with one stone and head to Distrikt Bar in Leeds. Not only do you get to dance off those excesses to the smooth deep house sounds of Inland Knights (making a rare appearance over the holidays) but it’s also completely free. Only on until 2:00am so doable even if you’re unlucky enough to be at work on the 27th.
INLAND KNIGHTS (20:20 VISION / NRK)
5. Animal Farm 12th Birthday with Ben Klock – Sub Club, Glasgow, 27th December
There really is only one word in clubbing north of the border and that is Sub Club. Often cited as the DJs favourite venue despite only having a capacity of around 400. This intimate venue always generates an electric atmosphere and the techno pioneer that is Ben Klock is sure to blow away any cobwebs left from Christmas.
